Project Highlight: Conexus Credit Union

The Space

Conexus Credit Union's Wascana Centre headquarters is a unique space. Designed to complement the Collegiate Gothic architecture of Darke Hall, the building features office space for all of Conexus's Regina employees, public gathering areas, and Cultivator, Conexus's business incubator.

With these functions in mind, Conexus engaged P3Architectiure and Evolution AV to build a space that would allow Conexus to connect with the community around their office, their customers across Saskatchewan, and startup investors around the world.

The Technology

The main office space was designed with collaboration in mind. To accomplish this, Evolution AV designed and built video conferencing solutions in several different configurations, depending on room size. In the large meeting rooms, a 65" display is paired with a Crestron AirMedia system, allowing users to wirelessly mirror their device to the room's display. The rooms are completed with a Crestron Flex system for seamless Microsoft Teams integration, and a scheduling panel at the door to show if the room is in use or not. In the small and medium rooms, the video conference system is paired with a 43" or 55" display, respectively.

In the main boardrooms, larger systems were required. The same Crestron Flex system is used for video conferencing; however, instead of a video bar, a Vaddio PTX Camera is used to follow presenters around the room as they speak. A Shure ceiling mounted array microphone is used for audio inputs, while 6 ceiling mounted speakers are used for the output. At the front of the room, two Sharp interactive displays allow for whiteboarding sessions, both in person and remotely.

Finally, in the dividable conference space, Evolution designed and built a flexible system that works in as many configurations as the room itself. Users can mirror their computers to any combination of the two TVs and two projectors. Both sides of the room have a wireless handheld and wireless lavalier mircrophone, as well as tabletop microphones that can be used on either side of the divider.

Cultivator

Cultivator, Conexus's business incubator, required a space for startups to pitch their ideas to investors. This space also needed to be usable for conferences, seminars, and other uses where multiple people are presenting or speaking at the same time.

For this, four wireless lapel microphones are used for presenters, while two wireless handheld microphones can be used for audience members, and two boundary microphones pick up the ambient crowd noise. These sources, along with the audio from the computer inputs, are fed into a signal processor to allow volume changes and line muting as necessary. Audio output is provided by two line array speakers at the front of the room, and 4 ceiling mount speakers at the rear. For the video component, a Barco LCD video wall was chosen. This 165" wide display allows for dynamic presentations, as well as easy visibility of remote presenters for anyone in the room.
