Project Highlight: ORANO Canada

Orano has been exploring for uranium, developing uranium mines and producing uranium concentrate in Canada for over 60 years. Headquartered in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Orano Canada Inc. is one of Canada’s leading uranium producers. A subsidiary of the multinational Orano group headquartered in France, Orano needed a solution to allow easy remote collaboration and meetings between their Canadian head office, remote mine sites, and their parent company.

Orano selected Evolution AV to design and install AV systems to allow their teams to communicate effectively over these distances.

The Technology

Evolution designed and installed 4 different meeting room packages, based on the size and capacity of the room. In the small and medium sized meeting rooms, 55 inch interactive flat panels are paired with built-in PCs and screensharing dongles, creating a fantastic collaborative environment for these huddle rooms. For video conferencing, a Crestron Mercury tablet is used as a controller for the conferencing software, an occupancy sensor for the rooms, and a 360 degree microphone with a 4-mic array.

The larger conference rooms required more inputs to ensure all participants in meetings could hear and be heard. For these rooms, Evolution installed larger interactive flat panels for better visibility. For audio, ceiling mounted microphones and speakers from Crestron provide high quality audio without any obstructions on the table. To provide usage statistics and occupancy status, a ceiling mounted occupancy sensor was installed, which integrates with the Crestron scheduling panels and management software. The rooms have also been equipped with a Barco Clickshare system, for wireless screensharing and conferencing. The included USB dongles allow users to connect their computer to the display for easy content sharing, without cluttering up the workspace with loose cables.

Throughout the building, Orano’s headquarters have been outfitted with 55 inch digital signage displays that are all centrally managed. These displays from LG have ample brightness to be easily visible in any lighting condition, and the networked software allows messages to be distributed across the building with a single keystroke. Additionally, the lunchroom can double as a presentation space: the 86” interactive display has an integrated PC, and pendant speakers throughout the room provide even audio coverage.

Based on the success of this project, Orano also extended these AV systems to their McClean Operations site, including an additional six 75” interactive displays throughout the facility.
