Project Highlight - College Avenue Campus, University Of Regina

The Project Scope

The University of Regina is a mid-sized, post-secondary institution with campuses in both Regina and Saskatoon. In 2018, we began working with the U of R on a large project that involved a complete update of their historic College Avenue Campus. Both learning environments and boardrooms were included in the scope, and everything from lighting control, to video conferencing, to projectors and audio, was required.

Our Goal

Our goal was to provide the technological update the facility needed while remaining mindful of their timeline and budget. Our installation was required to integrate seamlessly with any existing technology, and any new equipment introduced needed to be straightforward to operate.

The Install

There are many things to consider when working on a project of this scale, and with 27 spaces requiring an update in technology, the U of R was arguably one of our largest and most diverse installs to-date.

Complete integration of AV and campus IT was needed and included extensive lighting control, lecture capture capabilities, and all the technology necessary for video conferencing. For the project's control requirements, we installed an Extron touch panel, processor, and receiver. For video conferencing, Panasonic, Vaddio, and LifeSize provided the cameras and displays needed to bring it all together.

To address the U of R's request for a more advanced teaching experience, we turned to NEC to supply advanced projector technology and large format displays. For the supporting audio, industry leaders Biamp, Clearone and Shure supplied the equipment needed for a great end-user experience.

“Evolution demonstrated that they have the personnel and expertise to take on large scale projects like ours. Throughout the process, Evolution AV maintained contact with us advising us of progress towards completion and seeking input on any potential roadblocks or areas for improvement.”

The Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, also located on the campus, often hosts guest speakers for lectures and public forums. For this, we installed video conferencing equipment in the lecture hall, creating a hybrid event space. Using multiple PTZ cameras and Sennheiser beamforming microphones, the AV system automatically tracks whoever is speaking in the room, switching the video feed to the best camera to frame the speaker.

The Unique Environment

This installation took place within a heritage building site. Extra attention was required to successfully integrate the new AV equipment into the building without compromising any heritage features. We worked closely with the project's general contractor to ensure every aspect of the install went as smoothly as possible and dealt with any unexpected obstacles within our proposed timeline.
