Tech Tuesday: TOAlert Communication System

Paging all schools: the next generation of intercom is here to see you! Today on Tech Tuesday, we’re taking a look at the TOAlert Communication System—an all-in-one intercom, bell scheduling, and digital signage system.

The first thing that most people will notice about the TOAlert system is these: the displays (hold up the display). These EverAlert Dynamic displays can be installed in both portrait and landscape configurations, and connected to the central TOAlert system with either Wi-Fi or a hardwired internet connection. They also feature built-in speakers for broadcasting alert chimes or intercom messages.

For larger displays, the EverAlert Dynamic View Player allows alerts to be shown on nearly any display. Easily mounted behind a display, the Dynamic View Player can be used with any display that supports HDMI, and can be controlled with the TOAlert Management Portal over Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

One of the standout features of the system is the ease of programming and changing bell schedules and alerts. The TOAlert system is controlled using a web interface that offers a full calendar scheduling interface. This makes it easy for administrators to change bell schedules across the entire calendar, or change them for things like assemblies or staff meetings—and because it’s based on a web interface, the schedule can be changed from anywhere.

The networked displays and players also allow for more targeted messages. Displays and players can have announcements and messages sent to them individually, or grouped into zones. Announcements can be sent as video only, or include an audible chime if necessary.

Of course, one of the most important functions of a public address system is to deliver emergency messaging. This is something the TOAlert system excels at, due to the Integrator module, which allows the TOAlert system to automatically display emergency messaging when an alarm is triggered—including things like displaying evacuation routes or muster points depending on which zone of the building each display is in.

A big thank you to TOA for sending over the TOAlert system! We’ve been installing public address systems for many years here at Evolution, and it’s exciting to see this leap forward for the technology. To learn more about TOA and their products, visit their website at toacanada.com.
