Project Highlight: The Hub at Market Ave

“Work hard, play hard” is often the mantra of many startups, and this one is no different. Located in downtown Winnipeg, we designed and built a solution which allows the space—The Hub—to function as a lunchroom, lounge, meeting space and more.

A Multi-purpose Space

Along with being a lounge and common space, The Hub was built for large scale conferencing and presentations. The room has been outfitted with a 186” projection screen for video playback, with a motorized housing to get it out of the way when not in use. The stage also has a 50” confidence monitor mounted in the floor, allowing presenters to view what’s on the screen behind them without turning their backs to the audience.

Another important factor to this space is flexibility: as a reception area, event space, and more. We built an AV solution to match this flexibility with multiple options for displaying content. The entire space has been wired with a Crestron NVX system. This AV over IP distribution system allows complete flexibility in how incoming video is routed to displays, and is easily expandable to other floors or expanded office space using a single network cable.

While the space isn’t in use for presentations, the displays around the room are used for digital signage to display announcements, news and other messaging. A BrightSign digital signage player has been installed, giving the client multiple options for digital signage. Layouts can be built either with the Bright:Author software built by Brightsign, or signage can be built by developers using web code, and sent to the signage player through their intranet.

Throughout the space, ceiling mounted speakers from QSC have been installed alongside an 8-output amplifier. This allows the client to route audio in multiple different configurations at the press of a button: for instance, having audio from a presentation in the main space while playing background music in the lobby and lounge areas.
